YOGA

As a yoga teacher, I guide men and women to greater depth and ease in their bodies and offer them a space to slow down, feel themselves and move in ways that enhance freedom, build strength and calm the heart/mind.

I believe the source of  yoga is within each individual, and I  invite my students to feel for and trust their inner guidance within embodied practice.

Classes include meditation, pranayama and Ayurvedic wisdom and are delivered at a pace that allows breath and perception of energy to stay central. Most students find  my classes accessible and adaptable to their physical needs.

I offer philosophical principles in down to earth, modern language that supports  deeper transformation over time. With a bow of respect and gratitude, to the wise and wonderful yoga teachers who have taught and inspired me over the past 40 years:

WHAT MY STUDENTS SAY...

Meditating at Home

TJ, Seattle

“I was a Yoga-skeptic who initially only got started 5 years ago because my spouse convinced me to try it “just once or twice.” Since the I’ve probably attended 100 of Shannon’s classes per year. She does an absolutely remarkable job of moving her students along, of all ability levels, with “level-appropriate” adjustments, encouragement, and tutelage. She has found a balance in her class between keeping things on track and allowing students the time and space they need for their own unique development. Her calm demeanour, pleasant voice and mastery of her craft inspire her students to challenge themselves. She doesn’t burden her students with the irritating distractions that I have encountered upon occasional visits to other studios, such as music and new age philosophy. I have found yoga with Shannon to be an excellent complement to high intensity sports (and hectic life). The greater flexibility, core strength and muscular/mental focus that I have developed in her class have helped keep me injury free.”

Shannon always knows how to guide a wonderful practice in a well paced and meticulous flow. The asanas she practices are slightly different than what you usually get in a typical yoga practice. The pattern and rhythm help me move from one asana to another, feeling alert and engaged without strain to my body, no matter how tight or tired.  Each instruction makes sense, especially my new favorite expression, ‘global body awareness.’ That is when my muscles and bones are strong yet supple, I’m focused, and I stay in the pose and the whole body moves as one.  When that happens, zowie!  JR

Shannon is the consummate yoga professional. I have studied with a wide variety of teachers in Seattle, Portland and Albuquerque, and she is without match. She excels at providing subtle adjustments to her students' stances so that even long-term practitioners find something 'fresh' in familar poses. Shannon's yoga vacations are always well-organized, memorable experiences, enabling her students to pursue both travel and yoga interests.
